HOW TO START A CHAPTER

Thank you for being a leader and helping your medical school form a chapter and bring students together who want to learn more about health advocacy! Here you will see a step-by-step checklist of what you need to do to get your chapter started. 

1. Reach out to the MAG-MSS Governing Council and introduce yourself to the Student President and AOL. 

2. The MAG-MSS president will introduce you to leaders in the medical student section and explain the role medical students have at MAG.

3. The AOL or the AMA liaison will explain how AMA and MAG work with one another. The AOL will connect you with the AMA-MSS Region 4 leadership board and add you to a Groupme where student leaders from Georgia medical schools can communicate and share information. 

4. Become a member of your county medical society. ​

   5. Georgia Medical Society (Savannah)

5. Become a member of MAG ($5)

6. Become a member of AMA ($ varies)

7. Find friends who want to help start a chapter with you! ("The Founders")

8. Contact your Student Affairs Dean and Student Council to inquire about starting a chapter (Bylaws, etc.) 

9. Find a medical school faculty member who can be an advisor for your chapter. 

10. Create a way to communicate!

    1. Create a Groupme, listserve, facebook group, etc. for the (future) chapter board members. ​

    2. Create a Groupme, listserve, facebook group, instagram page etc. for ALL the student members of MAG and AMA at your school so you can communicate with everyone.

11. Join these groups to be informed!

    1. MAG-MSS Facebook page​ and listserve to be informed about events, applications, resolutions and meetings!

    2. AMA Region 4 Facebook page* this is a very important place of communication for our region!
